Modesto Actor Finds His Way To Critically Acclaimed Roles

Jeremy Renner, a graduate of Fred C. Beyer High School, has had the good fortune to find his way in the world of Hollywood glamour and glitz. While achieving the pinnacle of success by being nominated for Best Actor in "The Hurt Locker," he has been cast in big budget blockbusters such as "The Avengers," "Captain America: Civil War," "Mission Impossible - Ghost Protocol," and "Mission Impossible - Rogue Nation," plus "Bourne Legacy. With smaller films, Renner has established his credentials as an actor whose approach to performing is thoughtful and discriminating. After his high schoool education, he joined an acting class at Modesto Junior College and never really looked back. He trained with the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco and eventually has joined the Hollywood acting elite.

Renner was named Breakthrough Actor at the Hollywood Awards ceremony in Beverly Hills and received his a second Oscar nomination when he appeared in Ben Affleck's, "The Town.". Honored first for his critically acclaimed work in the war drama, "The Hurt Locker," for which he was nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award, his second nominaton was for Best Supporting Actor.

While Renner lost to Jeff Bridges in the Best Actor category at the Oscar's last year, "The Hurt Locker" went on to win Best Picture and Best Director, among other Academy Awards.

Born in Modesto and the eldest of four siblings, Renner came to Hollywood shortly after college.  After launching his film career as the lead role in the zany comedy, “National Lampoon’s Senior Trip,” Renner learned the ropes in several television movies, short television appearances, a few films and various commercials in the late 90s.  He began a pivotal role in 2000 on “Angel,”  playing a puritan turned menacing vampire serial killer opposite his old acting class buddy David Boreanz.

After receiving attention for his role on the WB show, Renner joined famous thespians in blockbuster movies including Samuel L. Jackson and Colin Farrell in “S.W.A.T.”, Charlize Theron in “North Country” and Brad Pitt in “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.”  However, Jeremy’s most acclaimed work received an IFP Spirit Best Actor Award for his portrayal of the title character in “Dahmer” in 2003 and another IFP nomination for his most recent movie “The Hurt Locker” in 2009.

Renner has formed a production company and is producing films as well as starring in whatever he thinks is worth his time. Because of his advance to blockbuster, tentpole movies, he is committed to playing Hawkeye in at least two more Avenger films for Marvel (a division of the Walt Disney Company).
